클린스만 한국 상주 거부 ‘황당’ 이유… “북한이 파주랑 가까워서”

클린스만, 부임 후 6개월간 국내 머문 기간 67일에 불과

대한민국 축구 국가 대표팀 위르겐 클린스만 전 감독이 재직 시 한국 거주 거부 이유에 대해 ‘북한’을 언급하면서 비판받고 있다.

지난달 21일 독일 주간지 슈피겔과 인터뷰한 클린스만 전 감독은 “파주에 위치한 국가대표 트레이닝센터가 북한과 가까워 싫었다”라고 언급했다.

아울러 “내 노트북이 내 사무실”이라며 자신을 ‘새’에 비유했다. 굳이 한국에 머물지 않으면서 감독직을 수행했다는 뜻이다.

그는 파주에 대해 가장 먼저 떠오르는 것이 북한 국경과 김정은 국무위원장이라고 답한 것으로 전해졌다.

클린스만 전 감독은 부임 후 6개월간 국내 머문 기간이 고작 67일에 불과했다.

그는 2023 아시안컵이 끝난 직후 미국 캘리포니아로 떠났고 대한축구협회 전력강화위원회 회의에 화상으로 참석했다.

이에 클린스만 전 감독이 ‘재임 기간 한국 거주’ 계약 조항을 지키지 않아 책임을 물어야 한다는 지적도 나오고 있는 실정이다.

클린스만 전 감독의 이 같은 행보는 파울루 벤투 전 감독이 재임기간 내내 파주에 머물렀던 행보와는 대조적이다.
